Best Game Movies

See post here for more detail. This is a continuing work in progress. I’m looking for more suggestions of classic movies showing a thrilling dynamic between man and woman. I want old style men. Inner strength and resiliance: not muscles and guns. Men who needed and pursued women, yet could tame them. I want movies showing women as they should be: charm, a razor sharp social grace and intelligence and a desire to find a man whose reality they can live within. Women with deep femininity and strength, yet female strength: not male, and no attempt to compete with men in the male domain. Suggestions welcome.

1)Mystery Method at work

1.1)The Tao Of Steve

Great demonstration of irreverent guy with a good aura and without looks or money (e.g. Burto) pulling women left right and centre. Wimps out with him giving up his erroneous ways.

1.2)When Harry Met Sally

Gratuitous displays of pre-selection (“I fucked the Ethiopian”) and bastardism taking their natural effect.

1.3)Rodger Dodger

Dweeb meets player. Never watched the end, probably some bullshit wimp-out where the player realises the error of his ways or something..

2)Masculinity

2.1)In the Heat of the Night (1967).

Sidney Poitier projects a masculine aura of such unbelievable intensity I remember me and my friend, Herbs at the time, watching it with our mouths hanging open and saying it gave us goosebumps. Women are likely to faint watching it. Small animals may die if they stray in front of the TV.

2.2) Star Wars (any IV-VI)

For Han Solo and his cocky attitude. Who can forget the lines:

Leia: “I love you!”

Han: (descending into carbonite ready to be frozen, completely unconcerned)……. pause…….. “I know”.

2.3) American Beauty

Half-man incapable of arousing his own wife or garnering the respect of his children has a mid-life crisis and acts like a teenager, smoking pot and lifting weights in the garage, then creepily seduces his daughter’s friend. Mercifully shot in the head by a homosexual soldier. Worth watching to see how not do the “going your own way” phase and to see how Hollywood tries to market to frustrated middle class white males. This guy should have read Athol Kay.

2.4) Anything with Clint Eastwood in it

A study in non-reactivity.

3)Feminism

3.1)Aliens

James Cameron/Sigourney Weaver manage the spectacularly rare success of portraying a woman who is strong yet feminine and not strong in a ‘sassy Hollywood way’. You can totally imagine Ripley dropping the kids off at swimming and being fun to hang out with as well as fighting a 20 foot high Queen Alien to death to protect her child. It’s also a fascinating film to watch as it marks the end of an era when men and women were portrayed on screen as relatively normal in their characters and gender dynamics, unlike the grotesque parodies of nothingness they are now.

3.2) The Abyss

Brilliant portrayal of a woman torn from her genetic path to a life of cold-hearted career bitch until her final tumultuous breakdown and supplication to her need for her man (admittedly brought on by him almost dying).

4) Philosophy/Destiny

4.1) The Incredibles

The most subersive cartoon of the last few decades.

To be watched and assessed…
